Funding Approved For New Childrens’ Play Facilities In Barrowby

Youngsters in Barrowby are set to get an enhanced play area on the Village Green thanks to a £49,835.00 grant from funding body WREN.

The money, awarded by WREN’s FCC Community Action Fund, will be used to create an exciting playground to inspire and encourage more children outdoors. Outdated and inadequate play provision will be replaced with over 20 pieces of new equipment that have been carefully chosen to maximise play value and engage children of all ages and abilities. The new scheme is located in the heart of the Village on the Green (adjacent to Casthorpe Road) and was initiated by the Barrowby Parish Council who have worked closely with a group of local volunteers, the Barrowby Play Equipment Forum, to deliver the project.

Phil Cupit, member of Barrowby Parish Council and the Barrowby Playground Forum believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

He says “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Barrowby, young and old. It’s fantastic that WREN has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to seeing our vision of an exciting and inspirational playground take shape and become a reality over the next four months”

WREN is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, biodiversity and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, WREN’s grant manager for Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire, says: “We are delighted to be supporting the Enchanted Garden play area project and pleased that our funding will provide such a fantastic facility for children and their families in Barrowby and the surrounding villages. WREN is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon.”

Phil Cupit hopes the play equipment will be ready to use by the Summer 2017.

Since September 2015, a team of local volunteers from the village have been working on behalf of (and closely with) Barrowby Parish Council on this important project to revitalise the playground on the village Green and improve the facilities available to local children. The team have worked on all aspects of the project from design, community consultation, procurement and fundraising and, once completed, the new playground will be the biggest improvement to local facilities within Barrowby since 2010. The project is widely supported by many stakeholders who have been regularly consulted as part of the process and are keen to see it progress.
