2019 Barrowby Scarecrow Festival & Family BBQ

31st August & 1st September 2019

Scarecrow

The Theme is Famous People in History.

This year’s exciting event will take place on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September after the August bank holiday weekend. The Theme is Famous People in History. We invite all the households in the village to have a go and make a scarecrow. Join in, have fun, participate and be as creative as possible.

We have made some exciting changes to the format of the weekend. The family BBQ will be on the Village Green on the Sunday afternoon from 5.00pm. until 7.00pm. The usual burgers (incl. veggies) and hotdogs will be available as well as live music and the prize giving.  In addition to the usual prizes, there is the People’s Choice award (for you to judge and vote for over the two days) and a revamped children’s quiz competition linked to the scarecrows on display.

Saturday

On the Village Green there will be ‘Games on the Green’, a tombola, a second hand book stall, face painting, guess the weight of the cake, guess the number of sweets in a jar. At the Parish Church thre will be game and delicious tea and cake. There will also be ‘Made in Barrowby’ taking place at the Reading Room which showcases the numerous talents of people living in the Village.

Virtu Honda will be standing with some of their vehicles on the Village Green and the W.I. will have cakes, jams and plants for sale on the Sunday.  In the Memorial Hall, the Allotment Association will hold their annual Vegetable and Flower Show.

Sunday –

On the Village Green there will be the Allotment Association Produce stall, a raffle with some excellent prizes, guess the weight of the cake, and guess the number of sweets in a jar. There will also be a Table Top Sale taking place for households to bring their items for sale [£5 per family and bring your own table].

If you still have any energy left after that, the new play equipment is available on the Village Green too!

The Scarecrow Festival Entry Form is on the Parish Council web site below and the entry fee is £2. Completed forms should be returned to Skinners Butchers [post box on the table at the front from July]. Each Scarecrow entry will receive one BBQ voucher for either one free burger or one free hot dog.

The whole weekend is organised with the aim of fundraising to support your local Barrowby News Newsletter and have FUN and celebrate the best of Barrowby at the same time!
