Parish Council
Butterwick Parish Council was formed in 1894 with Mr W Upsall as the first chairman. In 1994,the Council celebrated 100 years with a journey back in time. (The newspaper report at the time is attached)
Present Day Councillors:
Andrew Gosling (Chairman)
1 Mill lane, Butterwick, Boston, Lincs. PE22 0JE
Telephone: 01205 760268
I have lived in Butterwick for 24 years and have served on the Parish Council for 6 years, acting as Chairman since May 2007. I am married with two teenage sons, who both attended the village school. I am the Chairman of the Park Green Project Committee and actively involved with the day to day running and maintenance of the Butterwick Park. I work in Grantham as Manager of a Motor Dealership.
Darren Dower - I was co-opted onto the council in February 2010 and I am proud to be a member of the Parish Council. My wife and I have lived in Peter Paine Close since 2003 and now consider Butterwick to be home and where we want to raise our family. We both work full time in healthcare and take an active interest in local events and St Andrew’s Church, and are keen to contribute to the community in which we live.
Mike Knowles - I was born in 1954 and educated at Market Harborough Grammar School. I joined the Army in 1972 and, following training, served with 3 Para, The Red Devils, 2 Para and The Army Air Corps. I retired from the Army in 1995 having achieved the position of Sgt Major and settled in Butterwick.
I am married to Caroline and we have 3 children. The two youngest were educated at Butterwick Primary School and my wife is a local school nurse. I currently work in the pharmaceutical industry. My hobbies include flying and golf but my greatest relaxation comes from reading a good book.
The village has given my family and I a sense of stability since we moved here (following 12 house moves whilst serving in the army) and I am very pleased and honoured to have the opportunity to help keep our village a nice place to live.
Kevin Forman - I have lived in the village with my wife Brenda since 1979. During this time we have brought up two children, Daniel and Michelle, who both attended Butterwick Primary School. For the past 6 years I have been a parish councillor and am also a member of the Park Green Project committee. I have also worked in the village, since 1968, for Marshalls of Butterwick.
Avril Smiler - I am married with one daughter. Moved to Lincolnshire through business in the early 1990s and have lived in Butterwick village since 1999. A diverse business life, both as an employee (Legal Secretary, Executive PA and Office Manager) and self-employed (ranging from the Licensed/Catering trade to running my own Secretarial Bureau, and also being in the retail trade), has given me a wide perspective regarding the life skills upon which I can draw in the performance of my duties as a Parish Councillor.
For some years after retiring I undertook voluntary work in the Local WRVS Office, latterly as the Boston & District Organiser. Unfortunately, the Boston Office was closed in late 2005, due to policy changes nationally within the organisation. However, now that I am a Parish Councillor I feel that I am once again putting something back into the community - and hopefully helping to ensure that we all live in a pleasant, safe and orderly environment.
My adage is: Take an interest in your local community, stand-up and be counted, use a vote when given the chance. If one doesn’t, one has no right to complain when things are not to one’s liking.
Carol Smith - I am married and have lived in Butterwick for 43 years. I have served on the current Parish Council since November 2006, although I was on in previous years and take a great interest in the activities of the village. I am at present Chairman of ‘The Happy Circle’, on ‘The Village Hall Committee’ and a member of the village WI. Also I am Chairman of Burgh Short Mat Bowls. My hobbies include golf, and I am a member of Boston West Golf Club. I also enjoy gardening and am a member of two garden clubs, Wrangle and Rochford Tower and I am a member of Rochford Flower Club.
Arnold (known as Jack) A Neill (co-opted ~August 2010)
I have lived in Butterwick for 4 years with my partner, Ina and very much enjoy living in the village. I am a Welfare Officer for the Freiston Banch of the British Legion and tend to the needs of ex-servicemen and their wives when required to do so. I have also recently applied to be a voluntary car driver for the Ambulance Service.
I am a retired Electrical Engineer and Surveyor having been employed by London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, Essex until my retirement. Golfing and Sailing are my main recreational interests.
We have been very happy since moving into the village and I now wish to give something back to the community who have made me and my partner most welcome.
