Gedney Parish has two Unsung Heroes award recipients


Joyce Waterfall Moved to Broadgate Gedney in 1963 when she married her husband Ron who had lived there all his life, on Ron’s death in 1998 Joyce passed the family home to her son David and his family to live in and moved to Fleet.Mr J Woolard nominated Joyce for her many years of hard work for the community.Among her achievements Joyce was competition secretary and then president of Gedney WI until its closure in 2006, she is now president of Fleet Baptist Ladies choir which she now attends having been a member of the congregation at Gedney Broadgate Baptist Chapel until its closure in 1986.Joyce is president of Holbeach Methodist Ladies for 2007/08, a member of Gedney Victory Hall committee helping to organise bingo and lunches, Fleet and district British Legion Ladies section, Holbeach Civic Society, helps to arrange Fleet and Gedney flower festivals and also manages to be on the committee for Diabetes UK Long Sutton  and District voluntary group.


Linda Cousins has lived in Dawsmere for 36 years this May. George Scotcher nominated Linda for her charity work through the years. Her four children attended Gedney Drove End School and she has supported the school over the years through swimming clubs and Friends of the school. For 23 years Linda has been a Tuesday school leader and on Dawsmere Parish Church Council for 20 years. She has been verger of Dawsmere Church for 12 years and took up the position of churchwarden 3 years ago. A founder member of the Mothers and Toddlers group until its closure and a member of the Village hall committee, secretary to the Mothers Union and a member of the Welcome Club. Add to this working part time at the Old Vicarage care home and it is hardly surprising that Linda was nominated for the award.
