Mablethorpe and Sutton Town Council
The Town Council came into being in 1974 following the reorganisation of local government in England. The area is made up of the communities of Mablethorpe, Sutton-on-Sea, Trusthorpe and Sandilands. Although the Council has adopted the title of ‘Town Council’ its responsibilities and powers are the same as a parish council. It has certain duties which must be carried out by law and other functions, or powers, which it may provide.
The Council is made up of 18 Councillors representing the six wards in the area. Each ward has three councillors. The Town Council meets at roughly eight-weekly intervals. In addition there are three committees with responsibilities for some of the Town Council’s functions. Meetings are usually held on Monday evenings at 7.00 p.m. in the Community Room, Mablethorpe Library and Community Access Point, Stanley Avenue, Mablethorpe. The public are welcome to attend and provision is made at all meetings for public participation.
In May each year the Council elects one of the Councillors to be Chairman and to hold the office of “Town Mayor”.
Quality Status
It is with great pride that the Town Council can announce that it has been awarded Quality Status by an independent assessment panel. Quality Status is awarded to councils who can prove, among other things, that they are: - capable of solving some local issues - accountable and visible - more representative of the local community - effectively and properly managed - able to take on delivery of local services - more pro-active and innovative in its dealings with the principle authorities
