Double celebration of skills
Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral are playing host to two fantastic heritage events this June.
On 22 and 23 June, the European Stone Festival comes to Lincoln Cathedral. It’s only the second time that England has hosted the event which sees stone masons from across the continent showing off their skills with a chisel.
Just a stone’s throw away, Lincoln Castle is hosting the hugely popular 1,000 Years of Traditional Crafts. Now in its third year, the event features a multitude of skill demonstrations and has built up a strong reputation for being a fun yet educational event with something for everyone to enjoy.
Mary Powell, Tourism Development Manager, said:
“We’ve got plenty keep visitors entertained over the weekend. The grounds of Lincoln Castle will be filled with craftspeople demonstrating traditional skills from blacksmithing to willow weaving to jewellery making. The whole weekend has the makings of a fantastic family outing.”
Carol Heidschuster, Works Manager at Lincoln Cathedral, added:
“It’s fantastic that we can combine the European Stone Festival, on only its second visit to England, with such a popular heritage event. Visitors can see the masons at work on the Cathedral’s East Green demonstrating a range of skills.”
The two events will be joined together by a Select Lincolnshire food fair on Castle Hill, featuring local food and drink.
