Henry Denman

Henry was born in 1890 in Northorpe. He was the son of Joe (an agricultural labourer from Northorpe) and Henrietta (nee Cartwright of Broughton). His older and younger sisters were Ida and Ruth.
Soon after Henry's birth his paternal grandfather William died. His grandmother Bessie then moved in with the family at 5 School House Lane and then Chapel Lane until her death in 1911 aged 93.
After many years of working on farms his father became a road worked for the District Council. From leaving school Henry was employed as a farm labourer.
Henry may have joined either the Royal Garrison Artillery or the Royal Army Service Corps.
