Sutton St James Churches
The Church is dedicated to St. James which was founded in medieval times by three monks.
Sutton St James used to be a chapelry of Long Sutton before being formed into its own parish.
The Church was built in 1302 and originally there was a nave connecting the Tower to the Chancel but this disappeared around 1650. The organ, which is still in the Church today, was installed in 1910.
The Tower now stands 66 feet away from the Church and leans 2 1/2 degrees to the North West. In 1920 the clock was installed to commemorate those who died in the First World War.
The parish church hold a coffee morning on the second Saturday of each month between 10.00AM and 12.00PM. All are welcome. You may not be a regular church goer but your support would be appreciated. You may like to help with flowers for the church or make a cake for one of our various functions. We also hold a quiz twice a year, a BBQ each summer, sausage supper and a flower festival.
