Mrs Margaret Sankey and her husband Mr Jonathan Sankey - Bardney Cemetery Improvement Fund

Rogers Shield Presented to Mr and Mrs Sankey On Sunday 18th December, a representative of Bardney Group Parish Council, Cllr Maurice Bellwood presented the Rogers Family Shield to Mr and Mrs Jonathan Sankey in recognition of their work restoring and improving Bardney Cemetery. Mr and Mrs Sankey, along with other volunteers have formed the Bardney Cemetery Improvement Group and have taken it upon themselves to fundraise and carryout restoration work of the memorials and seating within the Cemetery Grounds. The group has recently been successful in their application for funding from the Skipton Building Society and have also received money from the Co-op Community Fund. The announcement of the award was made at the Carols on the Green service, organised by St Lawrence Church in Bardney. The shield was kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Rogers in 1996 and is a lovely reward to those who volunteer their time and effort within the village. Bardney Group Parish Council councillors submit their nominations in November and the winners are announced and presented at the annual ‘Carols on the Green’ concert. Last year’s recipient was the motorcycle racer Ivan Lintin, who regularly competes in the Isle of Man TT races, for his regular references to Bardney in his publicity material.
