Rogers Shield Presented to Bardney Playgroup for the Scarecrow Competition

On Sunday 23rd December, the Chairman of Bardney Group Parish Council, Cllr Rob Webb presented the Rogers Family Shield to Bardney Playgroup in recognition of the work that they have been doing in the community and for organising the very successful Scarecrow Festival

Bardney Playgroup has been in operation for several years, with many village children passing through the doors before moving on to start their school life. The Bardney Playgroup fundraising committee are a small, voluntary group of local mums whose children either attend, or have attended, the playgroup at some time. Their aim is to raise money for the playgroup by organising and hosting events such as the annual Scarecrow festival. This money is used to buy resources such as craft materials and toys as well as pay for the annual trip to Rand Farm Park.

Bardney Group Parish Council chose to acknowledge the organisers of Scarecrow Festival, especially as it has now become a tourist attraction, bringing visitors into the area. Last year’s event took place on Saturday 29th September and attracted a large number of entrants.

The announcement of the award was made at the Carols on the Green service, organised by St Lawrence Church in Bardney. The shield was kindly donated by Mr and Mrs Rogers in 1996 and is a lovely reward to those who volunteer their time and effort within the village. Each year, Bardney Group Parish Councillors submit their nominations in November and the winners are announced and presented at the annual ‘Carols on the Green’ concert.

Last year’s recipient was Maurice Bellwood for thirty years of service on the Parish Council.
