The moth count aim is to encourage interest in moths throughout the UK and to run a national moth recording scheme to improve knowledge and conservation of the the 900+ species of larger moths.

There are 59 species of Butterfly and over 2400 species of Moths in the UK. In the last 100 years 70 species have become extinct (4 butterfly and 65 moths). The current recording programme shows around 2/3 of species are in decline and 170 are threatened!
