Library

If your New Year’s resolution is to lead a healthier, happier lifestyle, your local library can help.

Whether you fancy a refreshing walk, a cup of coffee, or a bit of a chat libraries are the place for you.

Libraries across the county are hosting a series of free health and well-being events and activities over the coming months. There is something for everyone (see notes to editors), so why not pop along and join in.

The activities will be complemented by the Reading Agency’s Mood Boosting Books, which recommends titles - from novels to non-fiction, and from poetry to graphic novels – for those feeling stressed, depressed or just wanting a bit of a pick-me-up. More information on the scheme can be found at http://readinggroups.org/moodboosting/ .

Councillor Eddy Poll, executive member of Cultural Services, said:

“These events aim to help people start the New Year with a healthier, happier outlook. The ‘mood boosting’ coffee mornings are a great way to meet new people and discuss interesting books.  The ‘Human Libraries” event, which involves people sharing their life experiences, is something that has been tried before and worked really well to promote a greater understanding of issues such as addiction, self-harm, race and mental health.”

“In addition to these events, the entire family can get involved by attending our ‘healthy walks’, some of which end at the library with a visit from Bookstart Bear, stories and refreshments.”
