The Village Walk

Cars may be parked in front of the village hall.  From there walk into the village passing the War Memorial a restaurant and a hairdressing salon, turning right into Browns Lane.  At the end turn left in front of Humberstone Villas and follow the path round to the right until you arrive at the metalled Willerton Road sign where you turn left.  Follow this road until it meets Churchill Road and go straight across, following the path between the Fire Station and the houses on the left.  The path bears right then crosses a field and appears at the turning head in Evison Way.  Follow this head in a straight line and a path then turns sharp right along the Dyke bank.  Turn left over a bridge and proceed across the field and pass behind the village cemetery (opened in 1880 with its two chapels grade II listed buildings originally one was for Methodists and the other for Church of England.)  Carry on along this path at the end on Jubilee Road turn left and follow the end at thecross roads turn left into Keeling Street passing the Axe and Cleaver pub and the Birkbeck School (opened in 1964).  On this road you will pass a supermarket, post office, the Bay Horse inn, Local village stores and takeaways.  At Churchill Road opposite you will see the Wesleyan Chapel and behind this the Manse rebuilt in 1871.  Continue along Keeling Street to the starting point.
