Voluntary Car Scheme

Enabling elderly or infirm residents to attend medical appointments.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Volunteer drivers, using their own cars, enable residents of Saxilby, Broadholme or Broxholme to attend weekday, daytime, medical appointments. In most cases these will be in Saxilby, Lincoln or Gainsborough.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

From 1 June 2011, you will be charged 45p per mile for your journey. There is a fixed charge of £1.80 for journeys within Saxilby. If there is space, you can bring a friend or relative with you and they will be carried free. A return journey from Saxilby to Lincoln County Hospital is approximately £9.00.

CAN I USE IT?

You MUST live or be staying with someone in Saxilby, Broadholme or Broxholme. If you live in Harby, Thorney or Wigsley, please see the attached file below.

You MUST be over 60 and/or infirm. (Infirm means you cannot walk sufficient distance or use public transport to attend a medical appointment.)

You MUST be able to get into, sit and get out of an ordinary car unaided.

We CANNOT carry anyone who requires the use of a special seat, e.g. child seat, OR needs to receive medication during the journey, e.g. oxygen from a cylinder.

You MUST NOT expect the volunteer driver to assist in any way with the administration of any form of medication.

HOW DO I BOOK A JOURNEY?

This is not a taxi service. We cannot provide a car a few minutes notice. It is important that you phone as soon as you have the details of your appointment, even if it is several weeks ahead. The telephone number is 0753 032 7664.

If the phone is not answered immediately, please DO LEAVE A MESSAGE. Make sure you give your name, address, telephone number and the date, time and place of your appointment.

We aim to phone you back to confirm who your driver will be and the time he or she will pick you up. This may not be until the day before your appointment
