Play Area Opening

Memorial Field Play Area

Following the hard work of volunteers and councillors, particularly on the Play Area Working Group, our new park has been installed and is being enjoyed. The park includes a zip wire, a tower unit with slide and fireman’s pole, toddler and junior swings, a basket swing, a springer and a roundabout. The project has invested over £50,000 into the community.

Fencing has been re-installed by Stirlin Developments, with the final section of fencing and gates to be installed following the re-installation of the Foss Flyer.

  • The see-saw from the old toddler park has kindly been refurbished by VTF ltd and will be re-installed in the new park in Sep/Oct.
  • The Foss Flyer Train has been removed and is being refurbished by VTF ltd, with the assistance of SG Haulage and 24/7 Selfstore. It will be re-installed in the new park in Sep/Oct.
  • More picnic benches, signage and a bin have been installed.
  • Further cycle racks will be installed by the park entrance.

Wheeled/Skate Park

  • Community consultation selected the preferred design (see attachment at bottom of page for the proposed design).
  • Part funding of the wheeled/skate park has now been received from a developer contribution in summer 2019.
  • Further community consultation has taken place over summer 2019, particularly in relation to the proposed location on the Memorial Field (pav).
  • Further funding and planning permission is now required to move the project forwards.
  • A initial funding bid has been submitted to Sport England in January 2020, seeking to secure the remaining funding for the project.

Westcroft Play Area

Due to the Church Road housing development, there has been a lot of disruption and work being carried out on Westcroft green space by the developer. When the work is completed and the land is restored back to an acceptable standard, there will be an opportunity to improve and enhance the area. Due to the wet ground conditions over winter, remedial works from the developer are still outstanding and expected to be completed in spring.

Initial consultation has suggested a climbing wall, slides, gym/trail equipment and picnic benches. This project will be progressed after the Memorial Field Play Area and wheeled park project are completed, as these are in progress and already have some funding in place.

If residents want to move things forward more quickly one option would be to set up a Working Group to fund raise and develop the plans for the area. Please get in touch if you are interested in setting a group up.

Future plans include a multi-use games area (MUGA), which is included in the Neighbourhood Development Plan as a project. This is a longer-term project.
