Scotton Art Group

Scotton Art Group

On 7th September 2011, Scotton Art Group was formed.

Started by Christine Hindle, eight members joined for the first class. Christine supervised the class, advising on how to start with this new hobby. Most of the group had never painted before and Christine brought along equipment for us to try. With her encouragement we started learning a new skill.

Our skills went on show when the group's first exhibition was held in Scotton village hall in November 2012.  A number of people came to see our work and there was much interest in the group after this event.

Now being run by Chrissie Wood, to date, May 2015 we have eighteen members.  The group continues to be a wonderful social gathering for two hours on a Wednesday afternoon. We have built up a collection of various painting materials and media plus several instructional books and DVDs. This gives everyone a chance to try out different techniques and with the help of our more experienced members we are able to improve our new found skills.

The art group year is split into three terms and during each term we try to arrange a visit from a local artist to show us some new techniques. We also welcomed Malcolm Clark of Goldstar Framing who showed us how he mounts and frames pictures.

During a busy autumn term 2014 we held another successful exhibition.  For Christmas we painted our own seasonal pictures from which we were able to design and create our own personal Christmas cards.

On May 9th and 10th 2015 we were invited to display our work in St Genewys Church, Scotton for the Festival of Churches weekend.
