VILLAGE NOTICES

NEW PARISH COUNCILLOR

We are pleased to announce that Saff Murphy-Mann has been appointed as the Councillor to replace Andy Dunlop.
Andy is a hard act to follow, but after a few training courses and a little time, we are confident that Saff will be a great asset on the Council

INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF SWATON PARISH COUNCILLORS FROM 5 TO 7.

SEE PUBLIC CONSULTATION POSTER BELOW WITH DETAILS OF HOW TO COMMENT.

Having been overwhelmed by the interest and number of applicants for the new Councillor position, the Council has decided to set the ball in motion to increase it's number to 7 Councillors.
This is a long drawn out procedure with loads of hoops to jump through which needs approval from District and County Councils and Central Government.  Even if the application is successful, it will not be completed until April 2019 !
In the meantime the Council has decided to invite two other potential Councillors - Judy Patrick and Charles Campion, to help the Council as 'Village Representatives'.
More details to follow.

EMAIL ALERTS

Andrew Deptford has put together a Village email database which will be used to pass around important information such as flooding and crime alerts.
It will be private and secure with any alerts sent 'blind' so that your email address is not shown to others.

DEFIBRILLATOR

A Defibrillator has been sited on the side of the 'Hut' adjacent to the Church.
Training in its use and CPR resuscitation has been organised for villagers and will continue.
When someone in the vicinity calls 999 and describes Cardiac Arrest type symptoms the Operator will supply the keypad code for the cabinet.  They will also talk the caller through CPR (Chest compressions) and use of the Defibrillator.
Just press the code into the keypad and turn the handle to open.

This was jointly funded by :  Swaton Parish Council, Swaton Parochial Church Council, Swaton Vintage Day, Swaton Hut Committee, The Swaton Village Fund and private donations.

PLAY AREA

This is now OPEN.  The first stage (fencing and clearing) was partly funded by Lincs County Council.  Much, appreciated, work in clearing the site was provided by the Youth of the village.  Stages 2 & 3 are almost complete with the supply of a Seesaw, Swings, Arial Runway, Disabled Friendly Roundabout, Basket Swing and a Shelter.  More to follow as funds become available.

QUALITY COUNCIL

Due mainly to the tireless efforts of our Clerk, Shelagh McIntyre, Swaton Parish Council has been Re-Accredited as a QUALITY COUNCIL.

FLOODING

The Flood of 6th July 2012 has attracted the attention of our Member of Parliament, Mr Stephen Phillips.
He will be talking to Lincs Highways, The Environment Agency and Black Sluice Internal Drainage Board on our behalf.
He has been fully briefed by a splendid Report prepared by our Flood Wardens, Elaine Richardson and Liz Harborow.
This Report highlighted two main (avoidable) contributing factors :
1)  Work done by Lincs Highways resticts the flow of water under the road bridge.
2)  Lack of maintenance in the Eau between the bridge and the Forty Foot drain further resticted the water flow.

The third (and main) contributing factor - the rain - cannot not be avoided !
